Epilepsy is a neurological condition or a central nervous system disorder.  The human brain can become disrupted and can then cause seizures.  It can also cause loss of consciousness, unusual behavior and sometimes loss of consciousness for the epileptic.  Seizures can be different.  Sometimes simply staring for a period of time may actually be a seizure or continual bodily twitching such as arm or leg off movement can occur.  A single seizure does not necessarily mean you have epilepsy.  It is encouraged for you to visit with your physician to best diagnose especially if you have recurring symptoms.

Mild seizures should not be taken lightly.  It is on the safe side to visit with a doctor who may provide treatment.  The reason you want to visit is to help prevent a potentially more serious seizure especially if it were to happen when driving, biking, or any type of activity where you may potentially endanger yourself and others.

Epilepsy can occur in children, teens and adults.  Some children and teens may outgrow their epileptic conditions although not all do.  Treatment for children can vary and recently there was a potential breakthrough utilizing medical marijuana.

Symptoms of  EPILEPSY

Typically symptoms occur similarly from episode to episode.  Signs that someone may be having an epileptic seizure may include and are not limited to:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Blank stare for an extended period of time
  • Temporary confusion
  • Psychic symptoms
  • Loss of control limbs including arms and, or legs

Symptoms will vary amongst patients and physicians will often diagnose or classify a seizure as either focal or generalized seizures.  It is best advised to be examined by a qualified physician to rule out all other potential disorders prior to an epileptic diagnosis.
